The remarkable stubble Quail breeding season continues, with very large numbers of birds recorded during last weekend’s fauna survey. Button quail were in such abundance that two banders suffered mid air “strikes”. No permanent damage seemed to occur to either birds, or banders!
Freezing weather on the Friday night didn’t deter the intrepid band of bird banders. Saturday night was much milder, and the transects were completed, just prior to it settling in to rain for the night. Owls were muchly out and about, adding wisdom to the proceedings.
